There are many reasons to have a smart home filled with internet-enabled devices, but here’s one you might not have thought about: safety for your pets.
October is National Animal Safety & Protection Month. It got us started thinking about our own mascot at Climate Control Company, our French Bulldog named Lennox. Just like you and your animals, pet safety is a big priority for us. There are numerous devices to help keep your furry friends healthy and happy.
Sensors In The Home
Putting these in your home can allow you to track your pets when you are away from the house. You will be alerted if the animal gains access to let’s say the garage where dangerous things like antifreeze and cleaning chemicals are stored. Sensors can also increase home security. They can be used on doors, garage doors, and windows to let you know if they’ve been accidentally left open.
Smart Thermostats
Extreme temperatures are dangerous for your pet just like they are for you. With a smart thermostat you can be constantly updated on the conditions inside your house even when you are away from home. It can be set up to send you an automatic alert if the temperature is too hot or too cold. If you’re interested in learning more about smart thermostats, the experts at Climate Control Company are happy to help.
Cameras
Pet safety AND home security is increased with the use of these interior and exterior cameras. They can be installed as a separate system or as part of an entire security system in your Glenwood Springs, Aspen or Vail, CO home. The cameras use your Wi-Fi to connect to the internet. They can also be motion activated and equipped with night vision. It allows you to watch your pets to make sure they are behaving and not trying to escape while you’re at work. Or you can just show the video to your coworkers so they can tell you how cute your dog or cat is.
Smart Collars
Embedded chips for pets are great for identifying a lost dog, but a smart collar allows you to track your pet in real time. Using GPS technology and an app on your phone, you will always know where Fido is. You can even set up boundaries and you will be alerted when your pet has strayed outside of them. Just know that while great for pet safety, these smart collars are not cheap and there is usually a monthly subscription fee.
Smart Detectors
Every home needs to have smoke and carbon monoxide detectors so why not have smart detectors? If they are connected to the internet you can be alerted to dangerous conditions even when you are not home. It could save the lives of your pets when you are alerted in time. Remember if you receive an alert of any Carbon Monoxide (CO) levels, contact your friends at Climate Control Company for an Indoor Air Quality inspection to uncover the source.
Lennox
Because we’re sure you want to know, here’s a little more information about Lennox, our adorable Frenchie. He has been with us since 2015 and is really popular around the office. He likes to bask in the sun looking for lizards to chase. Lennox enjoys a good walk and even likes to hike a mountain or two. The breed is recognized for being a great companion dog and is ideal for apartment or urban settings. They don’t require a great deal of exercise and bark less than most small dogs. All we know is we love Lennox!
