5 Signs of a Bad Thermostat

thermostat

Are you spending sleepless nights and worrying all day about the heating and cooling systems in your Glenwood Springs, Aspen, or Vail, CO home? If you are concerned you may need a furnace and/or air conditioner replacement, call Climate Control before you push the panic button. It’s very possible the problem is not with your system, but rather the device that controls it, your thermostat. Let’s talk about some of the common warning signs to be aware of.

The heating or air conditioning doesn’t start

This could be due to a wiring defect that causes the thermostat to lose its connection to the home’s HVAC systems. Also remember a temperature sensor is at the heart of every thermostat. If the sensor is reading temperature incorrectly, the thermostat won’t turn on heating or cooling when needed. An expert technician can quickly assess these issues and get your home’s heating and cooling systems up and running. once again.

System will not shut off

This is a pretty good indication the problem is with the thermostat and not the air conditioner or heating system. This can be caused by the same issues as a system that won’t turn on. It could be that the wiring that turns heating and cooling off has broken or the thermostat is not programmed correctly and is sending the wrong instructions to the HVAC system.

Check and/or change batteries

Many modern thermostats require batteries. If your thermostat appears to be having problems, check your owner’s manual and find out if it has batteries that need to be replaced. If fresh batteries don’t fix the problem, then it’s time to call in the experts.

Hot and/or cold spots in the home

While this problem can certainly be the result of poor performance by the heating and cooling systems, it’s also possible the thermostat is at fault. It could be turning the HVAC systems on and off when it’s not supposed to. The result is uneven distribution of the conditioned air.

Thermostat is unresponsive

If changing the temperature setting seems to have little or no impact, it’s likely there is a problem in the controls, and not necessarily in the furnace or air conditioner. One warning sign is if the thermostat’s display has stopped working.
