Shopping For A Furnace? Give Some Thought To These Features

Are you ready for another Colorado winter? If your heating system isn’t up to snuff, you may find that your bills are climbing and your home is insufficiently warmed this heating season. If your old system is underperforming or experiencing untimely breakdowns, now could be a good time to go shopping for a furnace. It can be hard though to know which features you’ll want, so let’s break down some of the advanced features that come with newer model furnaces. Knowing what to look for in advance will make shopping for a furnace a breeze in the long run.

You’ll find these important features in modern furnaces are designed to keep costs down, increase system efficiency and consistently maintain your home’s comfort level:

  • Variable-speed air handlers allow your system to operate at maximum efficiency by setting the air speed at lower and often quieter settings. This constant. steady stream allows for continuous temperatures in the house while using a minimum of energy.
  • Two-stage gas valves automatically adjust the amount of fuel consumed by the unit and deliver just enough heat to maintain the home’s temperature.
  • A dual heat exchanger uses a secondary exchanger to deliver heat that the primary exchanger would otherwise waste, capturing the excess heat and releasing it in your home.
  • Ignition improvements mean an end to a constant burning flame that consumes fuel. New options are safer and light the burners on demand, leaving more fuel for heating and a safer system.
  • While not a furnace feature per se, installing zoned heating can greatly improve the efficiency of your heating system. Multiple thermostats and dampers allow different designated zones with unique characteristics to be warmed and cooled by a central control and help to extend the life of your furnace.
