The Federal 25c Tax Credit for energy efficient cooling and heating systems and equipment has been revived for 2013. The best part? It’s been extended to retroactively apply to systems purchased 2012!
If you purchased a qualifying cooling or heating system in 2012, you can take advantage of this tax credit for your 2012 taxes! If you’ve already filed your 2012 taxes, it might be worth refiling.
This tax credit applies to heat pumps and advanced main circulating fans, central air conditioners (both split & package systems), oil or propane furnaces & boilers and natural gas – plus others. Purchasers of qualified systems can claim up to 10% of equipment/installation costs (max $500 total) from 2012 or 2013.
The Federal 25c Tax Credit is applied directly to the bottom line of your tax responsibility – it is not a deductible expense. This means more money for you PLUS the additional savings you’ll see every month in your bills by switching to a more energy efficient system.
Visit the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency for more information on the 25c Federal Tax Credit available.
Did you know there’s a 30% renewable energy tax credit for homeowners who install a qualifying geothermal comfort system as well? Credits are available up to 30% of cost with NO UPPER LIMIT!
This credit applies to units in existing homes & new construction, and expires December 31, 2016. Both principal residences and second homes qualify, rentals do not qualify.
